THE PROBLEM
A homeowner in Whitewright, TX had a settled section of driveway near the house that was creating more than just an uneven surface.
The driveway had lost its proper pitch, allowing water to drain toward the home instead of away from it. A large crack had also developed in the affected concrete, and the difference in height created a noticeable trip hazard.
The goal of this project was to lift and support the settled driveway as much as possible, create a more positive pitch away from the house, and repair the large crack.
The homeowner wanted to:
- Lift the settled driveway
- Improve the pitch away from the house
- Reduce water collecting near the home
- Eliminate the trip hazard
- Repair the large crack
- Stabilize the concrete from below
- Avoid unnecessary driveway replacement
OUR 3-STEP CONCRETE LIFTING PROCESS

1 Drill
Small, carefully positioned holes were drilled through the affected driveway section.
These injection points gave our crew access to the unsupported areas beneath the concrete without tearing out the existing slab.
2 Pump
High-density polyurethane foam was injected beneath the settled driveway.
As the foam expanded, it filled voids and restored support below the slab. The concrete was carefully lifted to improve its position and create the best possible positive pitch away from the house.
The lifting process also helped reduce the uneven transition that had created the trip hazard.
3 Patch & Repair
Once the driveway was lifted and supported, the injection holes were patched.
The large crack was also repaired to create a cleaner finished surface and help limit water from entering through the opening.
THE RESULT
The repair improved several problems at once.
The settled driveway was lifted and supported, the trip hazard was reduced, and the pitch of the concrete was improved to help direct water away from the house.
Repairing the large crack also helped protect the affected area from additional water intrusion.
The completed project provided:
- Settled driveway lifted and supported
- Improved pitch away from the house
- Better water drainage
- Trip hazard reduced
- Large crack repaired
- Voids beneath the slab filled
- Existing driveway preserved
- No complete tear-out required
Instead of replacing the affected concrete, PolyFix was able to address the loss of support beneath the driveway and improve how the existing slab performed.
WHY DID THIS DRIVEWAY SETTLE?
Driveway settlement often begins underneath the concrete.
The slab depends on the soil below it for consistent support. When that soil shifts, compresses, or washes away, voids can develop and sections of the driveway begin to sink.
North Texas soil and changing moisture conditions can make this problem especially noticeable.
Possible factors behind driveway settlement include:
- Expansive clay soil
- Changes in soil moisture
- Poorly compacted fill
- Water erosion
- Drainage around the home
- Voids beneath the driveway
- Years of vehicle traffic
Once a section settles toward the house, drainage can become an additional concern. Rainwater may begin flowing toward the home or collecting in low areas instead of moving away from the structure.
That water can then reach the soil beneath the concrete and contribute to additional erosion or movement.
WHY FIXING THE PITCH MATTERED
Lifting this driveway wasn’t only about making the concrete look more level.
The direction water travels matters.
A driveway that slopes toward the house can send rainwater toward the garage, foundation, or other areas where you don’t want it.
By carefully lifting the settled section, PolyFix was able to improve the driveway’s pitch and encourage better drainage away from the home.
Correcting the uneven concrete also reduced the trip hazard and created a smoother surface for everyday use.
A SMARTER ALTERNATIVE TO DRIVEWAY REPLACEMENT
When the concrete itself is still in repairable condition, lifting can often solve settlement problems without removing the entire slab.
Polyurethane concrete lifting offers several advantages:
- Preserves the existing driveway
- Fills hidden voids beneath the slab
- Helps restore proper concrete pitch
- Reduces uneven transitions and trip hazards
- Requires only small injection holes
- Creates less mess than replacement
- Minimizes disruption around the home
For this Whitewright homeowner, lifting and supporting the existing driveway addressed the settlement while also improving drainage and repairing the damaged area.
