THE PROBLEM
A homeowner in Tom Bean, TX was dealing with a driveway that had started to settle and crack.
As sections of the concrete lost support underneath, the driveway became uneven. A large crack had also opened in the slab, creating another pathway for rainwater to reach the soil below.
Rather than tearing out concrete that could still be repaired, the goal was to lift and stabilize the affected driveway and seal the crack to help protect the repaired area.
The homeowner needed a solution that would:
- Lift the settled driveway
- Stabilize unsupported areas beneath the slab
- Improve the alignment of the concrete
- Caulk the existing crack
- Help reduce water intrusion
- Preserve the existing driveway
- Avoid unnecessary concrete replacement
OUR 3-STEP CONCRETE LIFTING PROCESS

1 Drill
Small injection holes were drilled at carefully selected locations in the affected driveway.
These holes allowed the PolyFix crew to reach the voids and unsupported areas beneath the concrete while keeping the repair minimally invasive.
2 Pump
High-density polyurethane foam was injected beneath the driveway.
As the foam expanded, it moved into empty spaces below the slab, filled hidden voids, and restored support beneath the concrete.
The settled section was carefully lifted to improve its position and alignment with the surrounding driveway.
3 Patch & Caulk
After the driveway was lifted and stabilized, the small injection holes were patched.
The existing crack was then caulked to help limit water from entering through the opening and reaching the soil beneath the driveway.
The result was a cleaner, better-protected surface without tearing out the existing slab.
THE RESULT
The driveway was lifted and stabilized while preserving the concrete already in place.
Correcting the settlement improved the driveway surface, while filling the voids underneath restored support where it was needed.
Caulking the crack provided another important layer of protection by helping reduce water intrusion beneath the slab.
The completed repair provided:
- Settled driveway lifted
- Slab stabilized from below
- Hidden voids filled
- Concrete alignment improved
- Crack caulked
- Water intrusion reduced
- Existing concrete preserved
- No full driveway replacement required
The homeowner was able to address both the visible driveway settlement and the unsupported areas underneath it with one repair.
WHY DID THIS DRIVEWAY SETTLE?
Driveway settlement often starts below the surface.
Concrete depends on the soil underneath it for consistent support. When that soil shifts, shrinks, compresses, or washes away, empty spaces can form beneath the slab.
Once the concrete loses support, its own weight can cause sections to settle.
Common causes of sinking driveways around Tom Bean and North Texas include:
- Expansive clay soil
- Changing moisture levels
- Poorly compacted fill
- Water erosion
- Drainage problems
- Voids beneath the concrete
- Repeated vehicle traffic
North Texas clay soils can be especially challenging because they expand when moisture levels increase and shrink during dry periods.
That repeated movement can gradually change the support beneath a driveway.
WHY CAULKING THE CRACK MATTERED
Lifting the driveway addressed the settlement, but the existing crack also needed attention.
Open cracks allow rainwater and runoff to travel beneath the concrete. Once water reaches the soil below, it can contribute to erosion, soil movement, and additional void formation.
Caulking the crack helps limit that water intrusion.
It also creates a cleaner finished appearance and helps protect the work performed beneath the slab.
For this project, lifting, stabilization, and crack caulking worked together to address both the concrete above and the support below.
WHY LIFTING MADE MORE SENSE THAN REPLACEMENT
A settled or cracked driveway doesn’t automatically need to be replaced.
If the existing concrete is still in repairable condition, polyurethane concrete lifting can restore support underneath while preserving the slab.
For this Tom Bean driveway, lifting offered several advantages:
- No unnecessary demolition
- Existing concrete remained in place
- Hidden voids were filled
- Support beneath the slab was restored
- Smaller injection holes
- Less disruption around the property
- Crack protection was added after lifting
Instead of starting over with new concrete, PolyFix repaired the problem beneath the existing driveway.
