THE PROBLEM
A homeowner in Allen, TX needed concrete lifting and leveling work around their swimming pool.
Over time, pool deck concrete can lose support as the soil underneath shifts, settles, or washes away. When this happens, sections of the deck may become uneven, creating uncomfortable walking surfaces and potential trip hazards around the pool.
Unlike a regular patio, a pool deck needs extra attention because people frequently walk across it barefoot, and wet surfaces can increase the risk of slipping or tripping.
The goal of this project was to restore the affected concrete while keeping the existing pool deck in place.
The homeowner needed a solution that would:
- Lift and level the affected pool deck
- Improve uneven concrete transitions
- Restore support beneath the slab
- Create a safer walking surface
- Preserve the existing concrete
- Avoid unnecessary demolition around the pool
OUR 3-STEP CONCRETE LIFTING PROCESS

1 Drill
Small injection holes were placed at carefully selected points in the affected pool deck.
These access points allowed the PolyFix crew to reach areas beneath the concrete without removing large sections of the existing deck.
2 Pump
High-density polyurethane foam was injected beneath the concrete.
As the foam expanded, it filled empty spaces and restored support beneath the affected slabs. The lifting process allowed the concrete to be carefully raised toward a more even position.
Extra care is taken around swimming pools to avoid disturbing the pool shell, coping, tile, and surrounding landscaping during the lifting process.
3 Patch
After the lifting and leveling work, the small injection holes were patched to leave a clean finished surface.
The existing pool deck remained in place, avoiding the mess and disruption of tearing out concrete around the swimming pool.
THE RESULT
The pool deck lifting and leveling work focused on improving the position and support of the existing concrete.
By using polyurethane foam beneath the affected slabs, PolyFix provided a repair approach that addressed unsupported areas without requiring complete pool deck replacement.
The project focused on:
- Lifting settled pool deck concrete
- Improving slab alignment
- Restoring support beneath affected areas
- Reducing uneven walking surfaces
- Preserving the existing pool deck
- Minimizing disruption around the swimming pool
- Avoiding unnecessary concrete replacement
The repair offered a practical way to improve the poolside area while keeping the original concrete in place.
WHY DO POOL DECKS SETTLE IN ALLEN, TX?
Pool deck settlement is a common concern for homeowners throughout North Texas.
The concrete surrounding a swimming pool depends on stable soil underneath. When that soil moves or loses support, sections of the deck can begin to settle.
Several conditions can contribute to this problem.
Expansive Clay Soil
Allen and surrounding North Texas communities have clay-rich soils that can expand during wet weather and shrink during dry periods. This repeated movement can change the support beneath pool deck slabs.
Water Erosion
Pool splash-out, rainwater, and drainage problems can allow moisture to reach the soil beneath the concrete. Over time, moving water may carry away supporting soil and create voids.
Poor Soil Compaction
During pool construction, soil is often excavated and backfilled around the pool structure. If the backfill isn’t properly compacted, it can gradually settle under the weight of the concrete.
Seasonal Moisture Changes
Hot Texas summers and periods of heavy rainfall can cause significant changes in soil moisture, contributing to movement beneath outdoor concrete surfaces.
Understanding why concrete sinks can help homeowners recognize these problems before they become more serious.
WHY UNEVEN POOL DECK CONCRETE SHOULD BE REPAIRED
An uneven pool deck is more than a cosmetic problem.
Swimming pools are busy areas where family members and guests frequently walk barefoot. Even small differences between concrete slabs can create uncomfortable or hazardous walking conditions.
Settlement can also affect how water moves across the deck.
When concrete loses its original slope, water may collect in low spots instead of draining away as intended.
Addressing these problems early can help:
- Reduce potential trip hazards
- Improve walking comfort around the pool
- Preserve existing concrete
- Limit further movement caused by unsupported slabs
- Improve the appearance of the pool area
Not every settled pool deck needs replacement. In many cases, lifting and leveling can provide a simpler repair.
WHY CONCRETE LIFTING MADE SENSE FOR THIS POOL DECK
Replacing concrete around a swimming pool can be expensive and disruptive.
Removing existing slabs may also affect surrounding landscaping, decorative surfaces, and nearby pool features.
Polyurethane concrete lifting provides another option when the existing slabs are suitable for repair.
For pool deck projects, the advantages include:
- Preserves existing concrete
- Requires only small injection holes
- Fills voids beneath settled slabs
- Uses lightweight polyurethane foam
- Creates less mess than demolition
- Minimizes disruption around the pool
- Most repairs allow same-day use
Rather than replacing the entire surface, PolyFix focuses on restoring support beneath the affected concrete.
